Here comes a dark metal progressive band hailing from Italy. Willow Wisp are an interesting mix of clean prog and evil metal. The guitars and synthesisers make this band stick out. Not to mention the female vocals by Micaela Gotelli. I don't realy care for the more spoken type vocals. The vocals are a mix of Italian and English. The instrumentation on this record is very good. Guitarist Paola Puppo knows his shit. Drummer Giancarlo Pancrazi and bassist Fabrizio Colussi are a tight faction. I gotta give a ton of creative efforts to keyboardist Loredana Canepa. Even the fact that I can only understand half of the lyrics doesn't bother me. I think the spoken word just kills the whole mood of some of the tracks. Even a more melodic metal vocal would have worked. At any rate the songs are well structured showcasing some very good musicianship. I'm really digging track 3, Nusku. It has some very off beat rythems with a xylophone type synth dancing over top of everything. I can say i will listen to this again because there is just so much going on you can't get everything the first couple of times. It has kept me intriguied. This band has lots of potential. Maybe they were shooting for the odd feel during the spoken parts. If they were I just wasn't getting it.
