For years I have been a fan of their Stay Hungry
album. So when I heard they were re-recording it for
the albums 20 year anniversary I was all over it. I am
very happy to say it didn't disappoint. It could
easily have, yet didn't. The performances are pretty
true to the original. The only differance being a
little bit of double bass drum work and the band doing
the back up vocals instead of Dee doing them himself.
I admit, at first I was thrown off a bit by the thick
full sound of something I was used to sounding thin. I
was just used to it the old way. So I listened to it
about a dozen times and then went back and tried my
Say Hungry vinyl from 1984, and now I don't like that
version! After hearing the re-recordings, theres no
need for the old one. Theres also 6 bonus tracks of
previously unreleased stuff. All of which are good. 2
are songs that were recorded for the orginal album,
but didn't make it. Why I don't know as they fit well.
The rest are new songs, and to my surprise, are very
good. I figured they would suck to tell you the truth.
It's not like all the reformed 80's bands are putting
out material that can compare to their back catalogue.
But, then again, Stay Hungry is in my opinion, the
bands only great album. So I guess it wasn't too hard
to top the other albums as far as new material is
concerned. If you were ever a fan of this band, this
release is well worth your cash..... |
