Oh Yeah, the new RWAKE cd that i've been waiting to get. IF YOU WALK BEFORE YOU CRAWL YOU CRAWL BEFORE YOU DIE Fucking Rules!! Plus the title makes me think of reincarnation right away. And with this release, RWAKE proves to still Reign as the Kings of Southern Sludge Metal in my book. I've been into this band since late 2001 and i'll never get sick of em. This band and new cd both Crushes and Devistates.
The first time i listened to it, i ended up blasting it with around 275 watts and one of my bitch ass neighbors in the building called the pigs on me for the noise. I mean this shit POUNDS! My speakers were moving, falling off of the stands and shit. Anyway, the first track up is "Dying Spiral Galaxies" which starts off with a very cool sample/intro of some old dude talking about metal followers and artists being possesed by demons from hell and such. I love shit like this. Plus he goes on to say that it causes high blood pressure, birth defects, and mental retardation. Now this has gotta be old, because all the kids that had parents that were into heavy music when they were in the womb aren't mentally retarded. So this dude is full of shit. Right after he says "mental retardation" for the second time, comes the first Metal of the album, and godfuckindamn its Heavy. Screams that remind you of legions, this shit is oh so good. Once you get to the 5:57 mark in this song comes an nice guitar solo. Next up is "Forged" which like the first track starts off with another good sample/intro. That's another thing i like about RWAKE is their intros and samples. Though on this album i'm not sure where they originated. Like on the last album on the song "The Stoner Tree" that sample is from "Trick or Treat" obviously, but these ones seem to be even more obscure. I liked this particular intro on this song so much that i used it as my outgoing phone message. Call me and you'll hear it if i'm too fucked up to answer. I really dig this second song alot. It keeps up the heaviness as the first song is now over. 3:10 in this song comes a more mellow transition that leads into another great guitar solo. "Imbedded" is next and is one of my favorites from this cd. Starts off with a real cool guitar riff then goes into the Metal Madness that Rwake is known for. Around 1:14 in the song takes a musical turn with lyrics dealing with demons and space. 2:45 into the songs comes another good guitar solo. Lyrics are now talking about the Ghost of Satan and his Angels. How can you go wrong with lyrical content like that!
You can also hear the deep fuzzed out bass sounds from bassist Reid in this song real good. Track 4 starts off with some storming rain as track 3 ended with the same sounds. This song is basically an intro to track 5 which is "Sleep and Forever Forget" The main Lyrics from this song are included in the killer art image on the front page of rwake.com. I'd like to actually get that art inked somewhere on my back or left leg whenever i can afford more tattoos. Seriously. This song has a laid back stoned vibe to it until you get a little over 2 minutes into it. Now with the 6th song "Woodson lateral" there is some cool samples going on in the background with the music. Then around 3 1/2 minutes comes somethin that sounds like a slide guitar. It comes sounding real good and tight. Maybe they used a beer bottle for the slide, not sure though. The last 2 songs like the rest absolutely slay. I did'nt hear much Moog in this album, however you can defiently hear more of B's vokills which sound killer. I think i might like this new cd IYWBYCYCBYD in some ways more than Hell is a door to the sun. I mean HIADTTS is without a doubt great, especially with Rwake Classics like The Stoner Tree and Sight Beyond Sight. Shit i'll go deeper and maybe someday they will redo "The War Against The Christians" which is still one of my favorite Rwake tunes. This album is good from start to finish. That's cool At A Loss put this album out, cause now they have released stuff from 2 of my favorite bands, RWAKE and MEATJACK. Bottom line is you can't go wrong with RWAKE. Unless you are a poseur (in that case get off this webzine now!), there is no reason you can't get into Rwake. I also forgot to mention, make sure to smoke yourself retarded while listening to this, and drink old whiskey till you piss yourself. And get some DxM or drink 2 bottles of tussin while your at it. Get RRucked RRup! -DJ |
