Interview with Chris Pawlowski / Corpse God of LEPROSY
Interview by DJ BUSHMADO
LEPROSY is back on the scene with a new lineup, how
is the new lineup working out? Who all consists of the
new lineup?
The new line up is working well. The energy of the band has increased as well as the over all musicianship. Having a second guitarist & vocalist has definitely helped enhance our current sound. Our current line-up is:
Chris Pawlowski / Corpse God: Throat / Fetal Grinder
Mike Petrack: Blasts and Cannons
Turner: Necro-Intestinal Keyboard, Stool Samples
Donny Thomas: Entrail Facilitator
Shawn Weaver: Corpse Shredder
Sadus Von Necro Christ: Gutterals.
You've played some shows recently, how has the
crowd responded to the new LEPROSY?
The response has been great & the feedback overwhelming! Looking forward to doing more shows, especially out of state.
Now that you have a vocalist, are you still doing
your highs and back ups?
“Sadus” & myself are sharing vocal duties for the most part. “Sadus” handles the gutturals & I the highs. Our vocals compliment each other very well.
What happened with former bassist and original
Leprosy member Carl? Does he still drink at the Zone?
Carl’s split with the band was an amicable one. He obtained a new job and was unable to fulfill his obligations to the band. His years of dedication to the band will not be forgotten. As to where he hangs out, not sure on that one.
LEPROSY has recently recorded a new full length
"Beyond Recognition" What was the lineup that recorded
this?
Dave, Mike, Carl & myself.
How many tracks will be on it?
A total of 10-tracks of gore soaked brutality will be available for your listening pleasure. About 40 min long.
Where did you record Beyond Recognition at?
Starglider Studios.
When will it be available? And where can it be purchased?
I believe in a few weeks. The release will be available through us and world-wide distribution.
Who did the Cover Art?
Mike Bohatch / Eyes of Chaos studio did the cover art &. Zabrina Egan did the layout. They both do great work!
What made you decide to use the title "Beyond
Recognition" , where there any other titles you were
considering to use?
We decided to go w/Beyond Recognition for a couple of reasons. First, because it better described the lyrical content in regards to the cannibalism, torture, rape, murder & corpse sodomy that is vocalized on the release. It also helps for retail reasons. The original title was: Butchering The Human Carcass.
LEPROSY was started in 1988, how would you compare the Leprosy of 1988 and early 90's to the new Leprosyof 2005?
Not much of a comparison to the Leprosy of the late 80’. The first couple of years we played a few different genres. We went from Thrash/Speed Metal to Black Metal. There is a bit of comparison to the Leprosy of the early 90’. This is when we began playing Death Metal. Some of the biggest differences between us then & now in my opinion, would be experience, knowledge & technical know how. All of these things give us the sound that we have today. All and all from a musicianship standpoint, we are at our best at this time.
How was the PGH U.G. Death Metal scene back in the early 90's? What bands did you usually play shows with? Any memories you'd like to share with our
readers?
The Pgh metal scene in the early 90’s was fucking great. Almost every show had a big turnout. There were also more all age venues, unlike now. We really didn’t play shows w/any one particular band, we played w/so many bands back then. If I had to pick a few, I would say, Necrotomy, Gehenna & Assailant. We mainly played @ festivals & with headliners during this period. One of the fondest memories I have from that time was when we played at City Limits with Cannibal Corpse. There was wall-to-wall violence! It was fucking awesome. We sold all of our merch at the show before we even hit the stage. To our surprise, the pit we had was larger than the one Corpse had. Great show!
What was the first Death Metal show you attended?
Not sure about the first Death Metal show, may have been Morbid Angel. The first “signed bands” Thrash Metal show I attended was Dark Angel on their “Leave Scars” tour. Very cool band.
Do you prefer playing at bars or all ages byob type shows?
Definitely all ages. Everybody has more freedom to express themselves, & everyone can attend the shows.
What merchandise do you currently have available?
Our new release should be available in a few weeks. We will also have new shirts shortly. We currently have pins, patches, stickers & bottle openers.
On your website you have Serial Killers of the
Month as well as Goddesses of Gore, how long have you
been doing these features and do you plan on
continuing for awhile? i hope so. good reading.
The gore goddess & serial killer sections of the site have been active for about 19 months. I discontinued the Gore Goddess section last month due to time restraints. The serial killer section is still active. Gotta love em!
I seen you have a new red LEPROSY logo, like the
older ones, was this also designed in Germany? Who did
this new one?
We have couple logos that we use. A member of the band Nefarious Baptism created the newest one. They’re grind core out of California.
What are your thoughts on the current PGH Metal scenes, bands, venues, etc. ?
The scene has really picked up band wise. There are some pretty good established & emerging bands out there. There also appears to be more heads coming out to the shows. Venue wise, we need more all age venues.
Which do you think is better: The Original Dawn of the Dead, or the Dawn of the Dead remake?
The original release was better in my opinion. The remake had some good scenes, but over all got to stick w/the original.
Seen any decent horror movies lately?
I finally had the chance to see “ Wizard Of Gore”. Sort of cheesy, but the gore was pretty good considering how old the movie was.
Current Playlist?
Chuck Schuldiner – Zero Tolerance
Morbid Angel – Domination

Gore Guts – Obscura
Vader – Live CD from 1993

Guinness or Fosters
What can we expect from LEPROSY in 2005 and
beyond?
Touring, MORE BRUTALITY & MORE GORE!!!!!!!
Anything you'd like to add or close with?
