This disc hit me as a suprise. I haven't heard of Kuru before this disc. They are a death / grind act from Sacremento, CA. From the rough packaging I wasn't sure what to expect. There wasn't much info on the insert at all. You can hear lots of old Death Metal influences in here. Everything from Suffocation, Deicide and Cannibal Corpse to Immolation. The guitar work is very impressive. A non-stop barrage of riffing mayhem. They have your standard death metal growls with the occasional high pitch scream which seems to work. The album was recorded as a three piece with the guitarist Ryan and the bassist Brad doing the vocals. According to their web site they have since obtained a lead vocalist. The songs have lots of good tempo changes keeping all compositions interesting. Most of the tracks clock in under 3 min. except the last track "End of Days" which has a machine like industrial loop for the last minute or so. This band brings back the more human like feel that has been missing in death metal. They play technical riffs mixed in with more straight forward parts. My only complaint is the drum sound. The kick drum becomes lost in some of the parts. I think with a better mixed recording these guys will be well known in time to come.
