Interview with guitarist/vocalist Chris Pawlowski by DJ
"inspirationally speaking… gore is god!"
Can you introduce yourself and your role in the band?
Chris Pawlowski Throat / Guitars
When was FreeK born and is there a meaning behind the
name FreeK?
FreeK was spewed forth from the depths of the “Steel
City” in June of 1999
Freek to me, represents those individuals that choose
their own path or destiny in
life, as opposed to following the conformity of today’
society.
What was the reason for the change in musical style,
and how do does it feel to be playing Death Metal
again?
The reason for the musical turn-around was due to the
acquisition of our new drummer Rob Wagner.
He is more versed in the art of Death. DEATH METAL…
What other kind of “metal” is there?
Kidding…Seriously, it feels great to be able to
express myself through the style in which I was born
to play.
What is the current line up?
Chris Pawlowski – Throat / Guitar
Carl Muffett – Bass
Dave Turner – Keys / Samples
Rob Wagner - Drums
What's new with FreeK? Any recording plans? When can I
get Necrosodomizer on CD?
Presently, we are performing as much as we can in
order to get our name out onto the “scene” again.
Hopefully w/in the next 6-8 weeks we will be recording
again. It will be promo release until the full length
is ready.
“Necrosodomizer” should be available to everyone on
the upcoming EP. In the near future there will be a
live version
available on MP3.com. The live recording is fair at
best.
Your lyrics are pretty disgusting (but in a good way)
what is your inspiration behind them?
Thanks, inspirationally speaking… gore is god!
Do you have any releases available?
Currently, we do have an EP that is available, but it
does not represent our current style.
This is one of the reasons why we want to record our
new material and get it out to the public ASAP.
Do you still play the old material?
We do perform some of our old material, about 3-songs
worth. They are the heaviest ones from days gone by….
What was the best show you've ever played, how bout
the worst?
My least favorite performance would of had to been at
Cool Peppers over a year ago.
We were supposed to go on about 7:00PM, but of course
Hope, overbooked the show.
We didn’t go on till after 12:00am. Needless to say I
was quite inebriated and the show
pretty much went to shit.
The best show I would have to say, was at a particular
“local venue” when the crowd broke anything breakable
and
burned everything flammable. It was fucking great!
Is it true FreeK was banned from a certain venue?
I’ll plead the 5Th…
What was the first concert you ever attended? Who
played?
First one… I would have to say, “Dark Angel”.
Top 5 CDs?
Death – (Any one of them)
Cannibal Corpse – Butchered At Birth
Deicide – Legions
Entombed – Left-Hand Path
Morbid Angel -Alters Of Madness
(6) For the fuck of it, Venom- Black Metal
Top 6 movies?
Evil Dead 1, (2)
Dead Alive
The Exorcist
Night Of The Living Dead
Enter the Dragon
Best band of all time?
DEATH!
Who would win in a fight, Glen Benton or Glen Danzig?
Not too sure on that, they are both equally powerful
in their own right.
If I would had to choose, Glen Benton…
What would the perfect FreeK show be like? Who would
play where would be at?
Total destruction… performing with Death (RIP),
anywhere on the planet disemboweling all
the non-believers that attempt to stand in the way of
true music.
What are your thoughts on the way we live in society,
if you could change one thing what would it be?
Society in general is a fucking joke…. The majority of
people that you are forced to
look at on a day-to-day basis, are just carbon copies
of each other. They are either trying to
look like each other, dress like each other as well as
listen to the same shitty “pop music”.
Individuality on a whole, tragically has been lost. If
I could change anything it would be to remind people
that they do have a free will to be themselves and to
live life as such.
Any closing statements,shoutouts,fuck u's?
In closing, thanks for the interview as well as the
chance to voice some of my opinions.
A huge fucking shout out goes to all of those people
who support the “underground scene” as well
as individuality.
A big FUCK-OFF to all of those who don’t support the
“underground scene” as well as those so called
“musicians” out there who
think that that they are “Rock-Stars”, you know who
you are….
Death Eternal…..
