EMISSIONS FROM THE MONOLITH V
May 23-25 2003 The Nyabinghi Youngstown, OH
Show Reviewed by Josh Anxt
To sit here and type a review of this show in detail is impossible. Trust me, I just tried it and got 25% of the way through before realizing it would be 8 fucking pages long. So lets break it down.
The Venue:
This was held at the Nyabinghi as usual. A cool club. You walk into the bar area where drinks and merch are being held. At the back of the room is a walk way that leads to the stage room. The entire place holds about 700 people roughly. There was a BBQ outside. And at the bar was a computer with the internet everyone was free to use.
The Sound:
The sound in this place is amazing. Loud enough to make your ears ring a bit but not deafen you. Sound man/owner/event organizer Greg Barrett knows what he is doing behind a console. Awesome, crystal clear sound Greg!
The Environment:
Everything was really easy going. The crowd was friendly as well as the staff. Happy to say not one radio friendly face in the crowd. Everybody knew what was up.
Heres the bands I saw who rocked:
Rwake, Fistula, Meatjack, Keelhaul, Scissorfight, Weedeater, Mastadon, THE RUBES, Dixie Witch, Tummler
These bands were so-so:
Acid Ape, Volume, Stinking Lizaveta, JJ Paradise Club, Disengage, Acid King, Solace
The award for best band and why goes to:
THE HIDDEN HAND!!! What can I say? This band rips. It is the master mind of Wino formerly of Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, and Spirit Caravan. Wino is king. No matter what he touches it turns to gold. And I don't mean gold records. Fuck Ozzy Osbourne, Fuck Tony Iommi, Fuck Bobby Liebling, Fuck Jimmy Bower! Thats right, I said it! FUCK THEM ALL IN THEIR TIGHT ASSES! Scott Wino is the true godfather of doom metal. He is king. He reigns supreme above all their asses. Noone can touch him. Hate me if you will but I speak the whole truth and nothing but it. If your not familiar with Wino's shit, get to it or quit listening to this kind of music because you don't deserve to! Enough said.....
P.S. Check back to the site from time to time for pics from this mammoth event!!
