I'm not even sure where to start with this album. Hell, I'm not sure where to start with this band! And by this, I do mean positive things. If someone asked me a band that can represent what I like about extreme music, I'd most likely say Commit Suicide. As you already know, and if you don't-you should, C.S. plays some Grindcore with guttural vocals, blistering guitars, and possibly the best drumming found in this sub-genre of metal music. And the bass player ain't bad to boot! This new album moves far beyond the limits found on their much impressive debut. On this one, they take the balls out assault of the first one and add to it a depth not found in many grind bands. It's got the balls out, faster than fast blast beats. However, they also slow it down in parts. And I don't mean like they did with "Cyclic Vomiting". Check out the beginning section of track #3(I'm going by track numbers because I was given no song listing). While it maintains total heavy-ness, it adds melodic guitars with slow drums while maintaining Scott's insane bellows. Or check out track #5, 1 minute 23 seconds into it. The guitars start to tap away almost in a progressive fashion while Lee goes into a double bass, almost upbeat jazz swing. It leads to a guitar break that ends when Lee comes in with an insane hand-foot combination before setting things to yet another smooth ass groove. The drumming on this disc has been stepped up even further. I know that you don't believe me, but it's true. For one, there is a lot more double kick work. Also, those jazzy, Sean Reinhart-isms are more evident than ever. Just listen to some of the high-hat work in #1. What was that? You want blast beats? Good thing this is Commit Suicide, you get a double dose today. This dude has more types of blasts than anybody. And he can play them ALL FUCKING DAY! Just listen to #3 starting at 3 minutes 48 seconds. He goes 22 seconds straight, blasting on the ride and snare. 22 seconds isn't long Josh. BULLSHIT!!! Playing that as fast as he is there with no cymbal breaks or fills to break the strain is difficult. And that's 22 seconds before the tape slowing effect happens. Who knows how long he actually did it. To top it off, it's on the ride. You can hide a good bit of blasting sloppiness on a high-hat, but that ride lets all your flaws shine through. Incase your still reading this, I have to say stop and just go buy this fucking album right now!
Easily up there for one of the great releases this year.......
