Interview w/ Commit Suicide drummer Lee
FEATURED BAND MAY 2004
Interview by DJ
It's been a good while since the last interview i did with you guys, what's the latest news with Commit Suicide?
LEE: Well, we recently had to find ourselves a new bass player to take Dan's place...Whom is now a father of twins. Damian brought in Carey and he fits in quite well. I think he just played his 3rd show with us last weekend. Aside from that, everything for the most part is unchanged.
Care to talk about the new full length "Synthetics"? how many songs? where was it recorded? when will it be released?
LEE: "Synthetics" is sort of a concept. "Where will the human race be in the future?" It's a vision on the possibilities of becoming a technological component in the most extreme way. Most of the songs reflect on that, just different topics in that world. I believe there are 10 tracks in total. We actually were preparing an instrumental for the album too, but time ran short. It really has a strong vibe...Conceptually. Who knows, maybe it will pop up somewhere.
We recorded at Watchman studios in Buffalo, Ny. Doug was really great to work with, and I think he did well giving us the sound this record needed. Also, Mark Riddick did an awesome job at making my ideas come to life for the artwork. I believe it will be released at the beginning of May.
How was the Maryland Deathfest?
LEE: Aside from me having the flu that weekend, it was great. We were honored to be a part of such a huge event.
I also read you played the "Loud As Fuck" festival at CBGB's , how was that?
LEE: I don't remember that one too well. But I think Ralphy (Disassociate) was feeding us beers all night.
I must say, the cover of DEATH's "Open Casket" on the Misery Index split is great, any plans on recording another cover song for a future release?
LEE: We havn't really discussed that possibility. Though I'm sure it will happen eventually.
Have you guys gotten any shit because of your band name "Commit Suicide" being misunderstood ?
LEE: Not as much as you'd think. Mainly just these sad people who get a link to our website when trying to search for ways to commit suicide. I made a disclaimer for it too...haha. Hopefully that will cut down on the people who accuse us of "misleading" them, which is complete bullshit.
Any upcoming shows or touring plans?
LEE: We are about to do 6 dates at the beginning of May, after that who knows. I can't get enough of it, so hopefully we can do that often. I'll also be touring the west with Sulaco in July, which will be great.
You guys were in Metal Maniacs right? Any word on being in a future issue?
LEE: I'm not aware of any.
Favorite thing about Pittsburgh?
LEE: Hmmm, I'll have to get back to you on that one.
What are your thoughts on the new Headbanger's Ball?
LEE: I think I caught a bit of the first one....Didn't seem much different than if you were to turn it on during the day. But I don't think that suprised anyone.
Top 5 movies?
LEE: Ugh, I don't know man.
Top 5 cds?
LEE: This is tough, they change throughout the years. :)
Confessor - Condemned
Chick Corea EB - Beneath the mask
Cynic - Focus
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Watchtower - Control and Resistance
Current Playlist?
LEE: It's usually quite random. I suppose right now it would be,
Allan Holdsworth - Secrets
Tunnels - Progressivity
Arsis - a celebration of guilt
Spooge - As much as I can find!
Spiral Architect - A Sceptic's Universe
Anything you'd like to add or close with?
LEE: Thanks to everyone who has supported us. And thank you.
Thanks for this interview and keep up the brutality!
