BURIED AT SEA
Reviewed by DJ BUSHMADO
Buried At Sea hail from Chicago, and in my opinion are one of the best Sludge bands out today. The first song on the cd "Man In Search of the Perfect Weapon" is a Monster of Sludge clocking in at over 10 minutes. Vocals are low and distorted and go very well with the music. The second song "Droning Destruction....The Nameless Horde" starts of with 25seconds of some killer feedback. This band reminds me a little of "FACE DOWN IN SHIT" but with no fast parts at all. Which i think is good, i like my Sludge extra Slow and extra Dirty. around 3 1/2 minutes into the song is a slow evil sounding musical change that just prepares you for the heavy as hell Sludge to come. There is alot of different parts in this song, kinda like a musical journey, or trip. This song clocks in a little over 12minutes! Next up is "Dawn of Relentless Decay"
It starts out with some really trippy sound effects, they might be coming from the guitar, not sure. They kinda remind me of something i'd hear from a 70's Sci-Fi movie. Very Cool. 4 minutes into the song comes one of the coolest riffs ever. It sounds very familiar to me cause its the begining of the music video for this song on the new Doomed Nation Video Zine. Fuck Yeah, this shit rules! Around 6:30 into the song comes some Acoustic stuff, wasnt expecting this, but it still sounds good. 7:45 into the song comes the end of the acoustic and back to the loud heavy shit! This song ends close to the 13minute mark. The first time i heard the fourth song "The Aquanaut" i was stoned outta my mind, and thought it was a Pink Floyd song off of the The Wall, played extra slow or possibly in backwards order, though i'm sure it isn't. There's actually no vocals in this song until you get about 8minutes into it. Song ends around the 10 1/2 minute mark. These guys are the kings of long songs! song Five "The Dogs of Doom are Howling More" seems to pick up where the secong song left off. Maybe its a different version or some shit. 5:45 it seems to get alot louder!
That song was only 8minutes long. The Last song "Isolation and the art of devestation" starts off with some power saw sounds with music in the background. This might hurt some peoples ears, but not mine. I listen to Death Metal to help me sleep (and give cool dreams). This track is basically just a bunch of noise. But wait thats not all...Bonus Track 7 is an EHG cover! Done very well!!!! i hope this band plays Pittsburgh sometime. Burried At Sea RULES.
